Robin and Sam want the world to know that kinky sex doesn’t need to be scary or weird, and we at Fantasy wholeheartedly agree. Their company, Play Partners in Crime, make greeting cards that capture the lighter side of kink.
We reached out to Robin and Sam, fellow Portland locals, to find out how Play partners in Crime came to be, and this was their response:
Like so many fun things, the idea for our sweet and kinky line of greeting cards came about in bed…
We would be lying there in post-orgasmic bliss and Sam would whisper something in my ear equal parts sexy, funny, and sweet. For example, while adoring the fresh rope marks on my skin, he would look up and say, “We have the best kind of romantic tension.” (Which is now one of our most popular cards).
I would laugh and say, “That needs to go on a greeting card.”
So we did some research. Were there any existing cards that were kinky AND adorable? Not really. Too often these are seen as mutually exclusive (*cough*fiftyshades*cough*).
So we put our two brains together and made it happen.
We wanted to create a line of cards that showed the sweet and romantic side of kink — the caring, tenderness, and playfulness that goes hand-in-hand with the rougher side of things.
We enlisted the services of local illustrator/rapper, Michaelangeflow, who did a fantastic job of creating characters that really embody that sweet playfulness.
It was very important to us to make sure the cards are not only sex/kink positive but also as inclusive as possible. We did our best to represent multiple genders, sexual orientations, and ethnicities in our little stick figures. We look forward to future editions taking this ideal even further.
Right now there are four designs — all hand drawn and printed locally here in Portland, and we’ve got dozens more waiting in the pipeline once we sell enough of these. (Think adorable orgies, more kinky sex acts, and poly-positive cards!)
What started as pillow talk is now a fun and endearing way to tell your significant other(s) how you feel.
